The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is a fictional story that offers a unique perspective on how prejudice, hatred and violence affected innocent people, and children during the war. Through the lens of an eight year old boy, we are able to witness a friendship that was not followed but secretly formed between a boy named Bruno, the son of Nazi commandant, and Shmuel, a Jewish boy held in a concentration camp. Though the two are separated physically by a wired fence, their lives become inescapably. The story of Bruno and Shmuel bring light on the brutality and devastating consequences of war from an unusual point of view. However together, their tragic journey helps recall the millions of innocent victims during the Holocaust. More complex behavioral and cognitive abilities become possible as the central nervous system matures. At one point in the film, Bruno and his friends are play fighting with guns. They don’t actually have real guns, but they are pretending to use the weapons with their hands, pointing at each other until one falls down. They continue to play these roles and run around until it is time for Bruno to go. Sociodramatic play, however is a major type of active play. Children act out various roles and plots, they combine their imagination with friends, advancing in theory of mind (Kavanaugh, 2011).
